How to stop the cold, flu, and viruses in a Lyme disease treatment image from Marty Ross MD

Acute Seasonal Viruses & Lyme Disease

For a person with chronic Lyme and associated diseases, viral season is a treacherous time. Due to immune suppression from Lyme, some with Lyme have more viral infections than the average person. In addition recovery from these acute viruses can take longer than recovery in the average person.

Stop Them in Their Tracks!

Steps to Address Acute Viruses

Here are some things to limit cold, flu and viruses before they cause harm. At the first sign of a viral infection use these immune system nutritional supports:

  • Thymic Protein A three times a day for 48 hours. On the first day take the 3 doses 2 hours apart. On the second day take the doses spread throughout the day. Read more about Thymic Protein A.
  • Olive Leaf Extract 500 mg 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days. Read more about Olive Leaf Extract.

I personally use this regimen with great benefit. I am able to stop most of my viral infections in the first 24 hours of starting this regimen. I used this regimen in my patients when I practiced in Seattle, with great success as well. A person with chronic Lyme and associated diseases should keep these two supplements on hand as a Cold and Flu First Aid Package because they work best if taken immediately with the onset of symptoms.

Thymic Protein A turns on the antiviral part of the immune system, decreases viral infectiousness, and decreases viral cyotkines that may cause inflammation. Olive Leaf Extract kills viruses and stimulates another section of the antiviral part of the immune system.

Prevent Them

A person with Lyme can prevent viral infections too. These lifestyle immune support methods help:

  • get adequate sleep,
  • exercise regularly if your Lyme Disease allows,
  • deal with emotional stressors in your life,
  • have a diet rich in organic foods and low on simple sugars like cookies, candy cake and ice cream.

In addition to these lifestyle methods, if a person is prone to viral infections start Reishi Gano Mushrooms 1-2 pills 3 times a day taken throughout the cold and flu season from the early fall through the early spring. These mushrooms stimulate the antiviral part of the immune system as well.

One Final Note

These suggestions are a great alternative to the flu vaccine. Generally, in Lyme I do not believe it is a good idea for a person to have flu vaccines. Read more in Should I Get The Flu Vaccine In Lyme?
